"Don't be Frightened of the Storms"

One of the books I have started to write is titled, “The Storms of Life… They Will Come”. Everyone alive can contest that storms come into our lives, in one form or another. Some are easier to deal with than others. Some we can see through, and some we cannot.

This morning I woke up experiencing one of these storms. I am currently in a Nurses Aid program (studying for a mid-term) and teaching 3rd grade Sunday school at our church. I took the day off from work to catch up because I am implementing a new teaching approach and thoughts of all that I had to do in the next two days were bombarding my mind. I acknowledged the Lord and suddenly, He said to me, “Don’t be frightened of the storms”. He immediately silenced everything and those thoughts were no more.

Do you remember when Jesus was on the boat and His disciples were afraid of the storm? They said they thought they were going to die! The NASB and KJV translations use the word “perish”. They were clearly afraid that this was going to happen to them.

What did Jesus say and do? Let’s read that passage:

22 Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. 23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger. 24 They came up to Jesus and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But they were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?” Luke 8:22-25

Now, we know that storms are going to come and we will choose what we are going to do when they do.

There are two things I want you to know (or remember) about this:

First of all, God listens to us. He hears us (if you have trusted Him as your Lord and Savior). 1 John 5:14 says: “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

Secondly, when we simply acknowledge Jesus in our storm, we will either have peace in our spirit because we know He is there (in it with us) or He will calm the storm for us.

I pray you will remember whose child you are today and that Jesus himself is our Peace. We don’t have to be frightened of the storms.
