Focusing on the Goodness of God

What do you think of when you hear “the goodness of God?”


What is His goodness to you? Is it when He meets some expectation you have? Such as for a good doctor’s report because you have been suffering from an illness. Or is it when some financial need is met? It certainly is easy to praise God in those circumstances. But what about when you don’t get a good report from the Doctor? Or when you are in financial need and are struggling to pay your bills? Is God still good then?


Well, we know that he is, because His Word says he is. (1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 25:8, Psalm 27:13, Psalm 33:5, Psalm 100:4-5, Psalm 107:8-9, Psalm 143:10, Psalm 145:9, Mark 10:18). The question is, how do we get ourselves aligned to and appreciate the goodness of God, despite our circumstances. This is what Paul was talking about when he said, “… I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13.


I have heard people say, “God is good” and those hearing will say, “All the time”. Then both will say, “All the time, God is good.”


I want to pose something to you. We can trust in WHO God is. He is GOOD intrinsically. Some of the ways I see it are here:


His Word says he will do what he says he is going to do. Romans 9:5-7

He never turns his back on us. Hebrews 13:5

He is making us like Him. 1 John 3:2 He will meet every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus! Philippians 4:19

You have Him FOREVER! He is forever YOURS! John 10:27-28


So, you see, it doesn’t matter what things “look” like. God is always good because he is intrinsically good, it is who he is – and when we focus on His goodness, we can sing! No matter the circumstances. “Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39.


Oh, how I pray you see His goodness today. How you see that no matter what happens, God is in control of it all, even your SALVATION! Nothing you do can separate you from His love. He is intrinsically good and will forever be. Now that’s something you can count on!
